Brazil reports 538.9k deaths, 19.2 mi cases of COVID-19

Recovered patients now add up to 17.9 million

The pandemic of the novel coronavirus has thus far caused 538,942 deaths. In 24 hours, health authorities recorded 1,548 new fatalities.

The number of people who caught COVID-19 has reached 19,262,518. From Wednesday to Thursday, state health secretariats confirmed 52,789 new cases of the disease, according to the Health Ministry’s dashboard. A total of 17,917,189 people have recovered from COVID-19.

There are also 806,387 cases being monitored. These are people whose health condition is observed by health teams and may evolve into different states, including severe. This rate has been on the wane for two weeks.

The new data can be found in the daily update released by the Health Ministry on Thursday (Jul. 15), which combines figures collected by state health secretariats.

States

Atop the list of Brazilian states with the highest death tolls for COVID-19 are São Paulo (133,901), Rio de Janeiro (57,252), Minas Gerais (48,513), Paraná (33,337), and Rio Grande do Sul (32,500).

Those with the least fatalities are Acre (1,774), Roraima (1,797), Amapá (1,876), Tocantins (3,375), and Alagoas (5,594).

Vaccination

According to the Health Ministry, 153.2 million doses of the vaccine have been distributed to the 27 states. As per the latest report, 119 million doses have been administered—86.6 million of which as the first dose, and 32.3 million as the second or only dose.
