Brazil reports 557.2k deaths, 19.95 mi cases of COVID-19

Recovered patients now add up to 18,687,203 in the country

Deaths from COVID-19 have reached 557,223 in Brazil. In the last 24 hours, health authorities registered 389 new fatalities resulting from the disease.

The figures can be found in the daily report by the country’s Ministry of Health, released Monday (Aug. 2). The update combines data collected by state health secretariats on cases and deaths linked to COVID-19.

The amount of people infected with COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic has totaled 19,953,501. Between Sunday and Monday, 15,143 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed.

There are also 709,075 cases being monitored—people whose health state is observed by health agents and may improve or deteriorate.

Patients who recovered from COVID-19 now add up to 18,687,203.

States

Atop the list of Brazilian states with the highest death tolls are São Paulo (139,059), Rio de Janeiro (59,375), Minas Gerais (50,628), Paraná (35,275), and Rio Grande do Sul (33,365). Those with the lowest number of fatalities are Acre (1,802), Roraima (1,858), Amapá (1,913), Tocantins (3,529), and Alagoas (5,833).

Vaccination

Also according to the ministry, 166.6 million doses have been distributed to the states, with 142.5 million doses having been administered—101 million as the first dose, 41.5 million as the second.
