COVID-19: Deaths up to 588.5k, cases to 21.03 mi in Brazil

In 24 hours, 800 deaths and 13.8 thousand cases were registered

The amount of Brazilians killed by COVID-19 has escalated to 588,597. In 24 hours, 800 fatalities as a result of the disease were registered.

Also reported are 3,328 deaths under investigations. In such circumstances, diagnoses depend on the result of tests concluded after the patient dies.

The total of people infected with the novel coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic rose to 21,034,610, after 14,780 new cases were reported from Tuesday to Wednesday.

Those who recovered from COVID-19 now add up to 21,138,267, or 95.7 percent of the people infected in Brazil since the pandemic started. There are also 307,746 cases being monitored—people who had their diagnosis confirmed and are being cared for by health agents or recovering at home.

The figures can be found in the daily report released by the Ministry of Health on Wednesday evening (Sep. 15). The update combines the surveys conducted by state health secretariats across the country.

States

Atop the list of Brazilian states with the highest death tolls for COVID-19 are São Paulo (147,641), Rio de Janeiro (64,295), Minas Gerais (53,845), Paraná (38,216), and Rio Grande do Sul (34,538). At the bottom of the list are Acre (1,816), Amapá (1,969), Roraima (1,980), Tocantins (3,724), and Sergipe (6,003).

São Paulo also ranks first in number of cases, with 4,302,522, followed by Minas Gerais (2,103,798) and Paraná (1,482,927). Those with the lowest case tallies are Acre (87,916), Amapá (122,616), and Roraima (125,616).

Vaccination

In its last update, the ministry’s vaccination dashboard read 214.6 million doses administered, 139.2 million of them as the first dose, 75.4 million as the second or only those. In the last 24 hours, 1.5 million doses were administered.

Also according to the official data, 265.8 million doses have been distributed, with 256.4 million doses having been delivered and 9.4 million doses in process of distribution.
