Rio registers more cases of COVID-19 than in first year of pandemic

The city of Rio de Janeiro recorded in the first 26 days of the year 228,129 cases of COVID-19. This number is higher than all confirmed cases in the first year of the pandemic: 218,033. The epidemiological data have been updated by the Municipal Health Department.

Although the number of cases has skyrocketed due to the Omicron variant, the number of deaths from COVID-19 recorded this year is 160 so far, with the case fatality rate corresponding to 0.1%.
