Brazil health insurance members add up to 49.6 mi in May

The amount is up 3.14% from the same month last year

Brazil’s private health insurance sector saw an increase of 49.6 million members in medical care and 29.6 million in exclusively dental plans. The figures were released by national health insurance agency ANS.

“In medical plans, the number of beneficiaries went up by 1,557,174 in one year—up 3.14 percent from May 2021. From May 2022 through April 2022, the expansion encompassed 240,096 users,” the agency reported.

As for exclusively dental insurance, 2,464,567 members were added in a year, up 8.32 percent in the period, and up 252,592 from May 2022 to April 2022.

At state level, the sector posted a surge in the amount of members in medical assistance plans in 24 of the 27 states against May 2021, with São Paulo, Minas Gerais, and Santa Catarina showing the greatest gains in absolute terms.

Under dental care, 26 Brazilian states reported a surge year on year, with São Paulo, Minas Gerais, and Santa Catarina being the ones with the biggest rise in absolute numbers.
