Brazil has 36 confirmed cases of methanol poisoning, 7 deaths
Brazil has recorded a total of 36 confirmed cases of methanol poisoning after the consumption of adulterated alcoholic beverages – another four since last Monday (Oct. 13).

The number of confirmed deaths from methanol poisoning also rose from five to seven, with five in the state of São Paulo and two in Pernambuco.
Another 156 cases are under investigation, and 11 deaths are still under analysis.
The data were released Wednesday (Oct. 15) by the director of the Department of Public Health Emergencies of the Ministry of Health, Edenilo Baltazar Barreira Filho, during a public hearing at the Senate.
“Based on the epidemic curve, we have noticed a slowdown in notifications, but that does not mean we can let our guard down or say that the situation is under control,” he said.
“On the contrary, we are increasingly alert, increasingly attentive to this, and we are monitoring it in the National Situation Room,” he added.
