Brazil donates 690,000 vaccine doses to Venezuela
On Monday (Jul. 20), Brazil sent another 4.5 tons of vaccines to Venezuela, which was struck by earthquakes last month.
According to the Ministry of Health, Brazil has donated a total of 690,000 doses, including 48,000 of BCG, 102,000 of the MMR vaccine (which protects against measles, mumps, and rubella), and 540,000 of the pentavalent vaccine. The shipment was transported by the Brazilian Air Force (FAB).
The Brazilian government has already delivered approximately 16.5 tons of medicines and strategic supplies - including antibiotics, pain relievers, anti-inflammatory drugs, injectable solutions, syringes, gloves, masks, gauze, bandages, infusion devices, and other hospital supplies - as humanitarian aid to the Venezuelan people.
Earthquakes
The earthquakes that struck Venezuela in late June have left 4,829 people dead and more than 16,000 injured. Nearly 18,000 have been left homeless, and more than 128,000 families have received some form of assistance.
The tragedy unfolding in the neighboring country has prompted an outpouring of international support. In addition to Brazil, countries including the United States, China, Mexico, and the United Kingdom have sent rescue teams, equipment, medicines, and food.
