In 2016, of a total 40.1 million children and adolescents aged 5 through 17, 1.8 million were active in the labor market. The level of employment in this portion of the population reached 4.6%—a group chiefly formed by 14 to 17-year-olds.
Unemployment closed out the second quarter of the year down in 11 of the 27 Brazilian states. The rate—13% of the so-called economically active population—accounts for 13.5 million of unemployed people.
