Brazil unveils full-time education program

The initiative allocates BRL 4 bi to boost enrollments in full-time basic education by 1 mi in 2023. The goal is to reach 3.2 mi by 2026. “Unequal education hinders meritocracy,” President Lula said.

Survey: Illiteracy in Brazil down, access to education uneven

The rate sank from 6.1% in 2019 to 5.6% in 2022. The 0.5 percentage-point shrinkage accounts for 9.6 million nationals aged 15 and older. However, of those aged at least 60, 16% could not read and write last year.

Nearly six out of ten classrooms in Brazil are inadequate, audit finds

Over the course of three days, inspectors from 32 audit courts visited 1,082 state and municipal public schools in 537 cities across all 27 states. Some 200 infrastructure items were considered.

Educators, leaders: Indigenous education in Brazil needs attention

A letter will be handed to President Lula on Friday, at the closing ceremony of the Acampamento Terra Livre, a yearly gathering held in Brasília by indigenous groups from across the country. On the occasion, the president should announce the recognition of new indigenous territories.
