The president has received treatment since July 7, when the infection was confirmed. He is still isolated at the Alvorada residence, where he has held online meetings with cabinet members.
The new official guidelines seek to standardize information for professionals working in public hospitals and guide the use of drugs in the early treatment of the disease.
“[The patient’s cure] may or may not work,” the president said, adding that chloroquine should be used for as long as there is no efficient drug against COVID-19.
The president said that, over the last 40 days, after hearing doctors, researchers, and heads of state, he has been talking about the possibility of treating COVID-19 since the early stages of the disease.
