The main impact on March comes from transport, up 3.02 percent this month, pulled up by fuel price hikes. Gasoline had the greatest impact on the IPCA in March (6.95%).
Despite the month-on-month shrinkage, Brazil’s crops should reach a new record this year, with production 2.3 percent (5.7 million tons) up from last year.
The increase from January to February affected 16 of the 26 sectors surveyed, chief among them extraction (5.3%) and food products (2.4%), IBGE researcher André Macedo declared.
The jobless also declined in number to 12 million in the quarter ended in February, down 3.1 percent from the previous quarter (ended in November), or 389 thousand fewer people.
The jobless totaled 12 million people, down 6.6 percent from the previous quarter (858 thousand fewer) and 18.3 percent below the quarter ended in January 2021 (2.7 million fewer).
