The country exported $11.378 bi more than it imported in May—more than twice as much as the positive balance in May last year ($4.958 bi).
During the first quarter of this year, the trade balance accumulated a surplus of $16.068 billion—a growth of 29.8% compared to the same period in the previous year.
The country exported $62.31 bi more than it imported—the highest in this time series, initiated in 1989. In December, the balance stood at a positive $4.779 bi.
A survey released today (Aug 1) by the Foreign Trade Association of Brazil (AEB) shows a resumption in positive trade results between Brazil and the rest of South America from 2021 onward, following with the easing of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The move was announced at the ordinary meeting of the Mercosur Council, held before the 60th Summit of Heads of State of Mercosur and Associated States, which took place in Asunción.
