Over 32,000 people have been affected by the flooding of the Acre River. The level of the river reached 16.37 meters above the overflow threshold, which is 14 meters.
Some 40 thousand people have been displaced and left homeless, local authorities reported. Victims are being taken to schools, sports facilities, and public buildings.
Moderate urban flooding was forecast in Pernambuco’s Zona da Mata region as well as the city’s metropolitan area, where people forced from their homes have surpassed 11 thousand.
In all, 436 agents have been mobilized. They are working with boats, search dogs and aircraft in four landslide spots and two locations where people are believed to have been carried away torrents.
Since the beginning of the week, the states of Paraíba, Pernambuco, Rio Grande do Norte, and Alagoas have strugged under the impact of the rains that have led to disasters such as landslides, floods, and broken dams.
