Co-infection is alarming because it combines genomes of different lineages, allowing further combinations resulting in evolution for the virus. Nonetheless, the two patients showed only light to moderate symptoms and are recovering with no need for hospitalization.
The 37-year-old health professional had the disease in June, was cured, and tested positive again in October, 116 days after her first diagnosis.
