Car production down 19.5% in September

Car production in Brazil dropped 19.5% in September, compared with August. According to data released today (Oct. 6) by the National Association for Auto Manufacturers (Anfavea), 174,200 units were produced in September against August's 216,600.

Compared with September 2014, when 300,800 cars were produced, the decline reported last month reached 42.1%. The year to date production of manufactured units totaled 1.9 million, lower than the 2.38 million produced from January to September last year.

Sales fell 3.5% in September compared with August. 200,100 automobiles were registered last month, against August's 207,300.

Compared with September 2014, when 296,300 units were sold, the decline reaches 32.5%. From January to September, 1.95 million vehicles were sold, 22.7% lower than the 2.52 million cars sold in the same period 2014.

Employment rates remained stable in September, compared with August, reporting a fall of only 0.6%. Last month, 133,600 people were employed in the automotive industry, compared with 134,300 in the previous month. Compared with September 2014, when the sector employed 147,700 people, 9.6% of work posts were shut down.
