Temer says “Brazil is back” in terms of economy
President Michel Temer attended a dinner with business leaders and politicians in São Paulo on Monday (May 29). In an optimistic tone, he said “Brazil is back,” indicating an improvement in the country's economic scenario.
“Brazil is back. Inflation is under control, we have created the conditions for responsible interest reduction, economy is growing again, employment has begun to recover. We have left the greatest recession in Brazil's history behind,” the president said.
Temer spoke at the opening of Brazil Investment Forum 2017, an event that brings together investors from more than 42 countries and 22 economic sectors. The president indicated the country has emerged from the recession, but “many challenges” lay ahead. Without mentioning any particular facts, the president pointed out, “Brazil is much bigger than all these circumstantial, incidental challenges we have been facing in recent times.”
The meeting with business leaders took place 10 days after a compromising conversation with Temer recorded by JBS meatpacking executives as part of their plea bargaining deal in the “Car Wash” corruption scandal sent shock waves through Brazil's political scene.
