Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel and President Joachim Gauck will be at the Maracanã Stadium on Sunday (Jul 13), when die Mannschaft is to fight for their fourth World Cup trophy. Their arrival in Brazil is scheduled for Saturday (12), and their return on the next day. The country’s Embassy in Brasília has confirmed the trip.

The Europeans will play the winner from the Netherlands vs Argentina, to take place today (9), at 5 pm (UTC-3), at the Corinthians Arena.

On Tuesday (8), Germany defeated Brazil 7-1 in Belo Horizonte. Five goals were scored during the first half alone. Apart from the ??, the Brazilian squad saw the Germans break two records. With the victory, Germany will play a World Cup final match for the eighth time—one time more than Brazil. In addition, striker Klose became the biggest goalscorer in World Cup history, with one goal more than Brazilian Ronaldo, who netted 15 times.

Angela Merkel was in Brazil earlier in the World Cup to watch her nation’s debut game against Portugal, on June 16, in Salvador.
