Brazil's National Federation of Federal Police reported that foreigners attending political acts this weekend in Brazil can be arrested and expelled from the country. The statement was released amid news of the entry of foreigners coming from Venezuela, Peru, Argentina and Paraguay to protest against President Rousseff's impeachment.

According to the federation, Brazilian law requires that foreigners admitted in the country do not exercise political activity, nor engage in any kind of parades, marches, rallies, and meetings in Brazil, under penalty of one to three years in jail and the expulsion from the country.

The law also imposes the penalty of expulsion to the foreigners, who somehow undermine the national security, political or social order, public tranquility or public morality, and the popular economy, or those whose procedures are considered harmful to the national convenience and interests.

According to the statement, the Federal Police is the sole responsible for the control of foreigners in Brazil, imposing control to land borders, ports, and airports by officials asserting the legality of the entry, stay, and exit from national territory and they may impose fines and notify foreigners breaking the law to leave the country.

"We are living in times of domestic political crisis in Brazil, but we should not relinquish our sovereignty. Foreigners entering the country for the specific purpose of engaging in political demonstrations are a threat to Brazil, a violation against the Foreigner Statute, and an affront to controlling institutions, like the Federal Police," said Federation President Luis Boudens.

According to the statement, all federal police agents were warned, within the period of April 15 to 18, to act on possible reports within the Federal Police's competence and to aid other public security forces of the country.
