Brazil is overcoming economic crisis, Temer says at BRICS meeting

At the BRICS meeting on Friday (June 7), Brazil's President Michel Temer said the country is overcoming the economic crisis through dialogue with society and the National Congress. The BRICS bloc consists of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.

“Brazil is overcoming one of the worst crises in its history, thanks to an ambitious reform agenda that will revive growth and employment. To address our challenges, we have taken a responsible path we are paving through constant dialogue with National Congress and the society as a whole,” he said.

The president extolled the BRICS as “a forum capable of translating our own individual efforts into shared gains,” and “an example of how much can be achieved if you pragmatically work to pursue tangible results for the sake of development and the well-being of our peoples.”

He went on to emphasize the importance of cooperation among the bloc's countries as a “a valuable tool.”

“We also have fertile ground here to cooperate in such areas as trade, investment, innovation, science, and technology,” Temer said.

Before the meeting, the president spoke briefly to journalists and said that there is no economic crisis in Brazil. “Just look at the figures and you'll find that our jobs are growing, our industry is growing, our agribusiness is growing. There is no economic crisis there.”

President Michel Temer is in Hamburg, Germany, to attend the meeting of the G20, a group of the 20 richest countries on the planet.
