Rain, landslide leave 15 dead in Rio de Janeiro

Temer assembled a team to inspect the affected places

At the request of President Michel Temer, the minister of National Integration assembled a team to inspect the places affected by the landslide caused by heavy raining in Niterói, Rio de Janeiro state, this weekend. Ten people were killed.

“We’ve been told by President Temer to provide families and civil agents with all necessary assistance. The federal government will spare no efforts to mitigate the impact of this and the suffering of these people,” Minister Pádua Andrade declared.

Accident

The victims were buried when a rock cracked, carrying houses, trees, and a great amount of mud with it on Morro da Boa Esperança, in the early hours of Saturday (10).

According to the Fire Department, 11 injured people were rescued alive and a number of houses were cordoned off by the city’s Civil Defense. Over 200 professionals helped find victims and search through the rubble.
