The new Minister of Justice and Citizenship, Alexandre de Moraes, said Thursday (May 12) he will “clamp down” on corruption and support Operation Car Wash, the investigations into the Petrobras scandal and its tentacles. “Operation Car Wash has become an icon of corruption crackdown. [We want to] to boost it by making it more agile and effective if possible” Moraes told a group of journalists.

The ministry now headed by Moraes has also been assigned with the responsibilities of the now-defunct Ministry for Women, Racial Equality and Human Rights. The minister stepped down from the São Paulo State Public Security Secretariat to take over the ministry. His job at the security secretariat was surrounded by controversy.
