Alexandre Parola takes office as EBC president

He left his post as the president’s spokesperson

Ambassador Alexandre Parola, aged 52, is taking office today (May 2) as president of the Empresa Brasil de Comunicação (EBC), replacing journalist Laerte Rimoli. Parola left his post as the president’s spokesperson he had occupied since October, 2016.

A career diplomat for 31 years, Parola holds a post PhD degree in international relation from the University of Oxford and is a professor at the Rio Branco Institute diplomat school.

On diplomatic missions, Parole served in Washington, London, Geneva, and Santiago. He specializes in trade and multilateral deals, in addition to human rights–related topics.

EBC

EBC is a public firm that forms the publicly controlled media in Brazil. It is linked to the president’s secretariat-general and run by an administrative council as well as an executive board of directors. Parola is to take over a number of radio and TV stations and news agencies—as well as the Rede Nacional de Comunicação Pública/RNCP, made up of partner and independent broadcasters.
