“I’m Still Here” actress Fernanda Torres bags Critics Choice Award
Brazilian actress and writer Fernanda Torres will be honored by the Critics Choice Awards in the Actress – International Film category for her performance in I’m Still Here.
The accolade is part of the 4th edition of the Celebration of Latino Cinema and Television, which is set to take place on October 22 at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood.
“The Celebration honors standout performances and work, both onscreen and offscreen from the Latino entertainment community,” the Critics Choice Awards states on Instagram.
On social media, the actress celebrated the announcement and said that the initiative proposed by the association represents “one of the main awards in the world of cinema.”
Directed by Walter Salles, I’m Still Here stars Fernanda Torres, Fernanda Montenegro, and Selton Mello, and is based on the autobiographical book by Marcelo Rubens Paiva.
In the movie, the character Eunice Paiva, played by Fernanda Torres, is a mother of five and is forced to reinvent herself after her family suffers a violent and arbitrary act by the government during the military dictatorship.
The film has been chosen to represent Brazil in the race for Best International Feature at the 2025 Oscars. The announcement was made by the Brazilian Film Academy after a unanimous decision by the selection committee.
I’m Still Here won Best Screenplay at the Venice Film Festival and was shown at the Toronto and San Sebastián film festivals.
