Brazil celebrates Turkey’s decision to end steel probe

The Brazilian government celebrated Turkey’s decision to bring the investigation into safeguards over Brazilian steel products to an end with no definitive measures.
A joint note from the Ministries of Economy and Foreign Relations says that “the Brazilian government observed all the stages of the investigation conducted by Turkey, always seeking to show there was no reason for the implementation of safeguard measures in the terms of the deals with the World Trade Organization.”
The Brazilian government sees the outcome as positive for bilateral economic and commercial ties, as the decision concerns a sector of major relevance for both countries. In 2016 and 2017, the note adds, Brazilian exports of steel products to Turkey reached an average of 400 thousand tons a year.
