Brazil’s oil production reached a daily average of 2.78 million barrels in January this year, as per data released today (Mar. 2) by the country’s National Agency of Petrolium, Natural Gas, and Biofuels (ANP). The result was 5.4 percent above the output in December 2020.
The daily average production of natural gas stood at 136 million m³ (cubic meters), up 7.4 percent from the amount observed in December 2020. Compared to January 2020, however, a reduction was seen in the production of oil (-9.3%) and natural gas (-1.7%).
Considering the product extracted from pre-salt layers alone, the output reached 2.07 million barrels of oil and 88.3 million m³ of natural gas, adding up to a daily 2.63 million barrels of oil equivalent (the standard unit encompassing both barrels of oil and cubic meters of gas), 8.2 percent more than December, but down two percent from January last year.
In January this year, the use of natural gas was 97.9 percent of the total extracted from underground. Only 2.9 million m³ a day were burned (unused). The fields operated by Petrobras accounted for 93.3 percent of the oil and natural gas produced in Brazil.
