A mandatory 0303 prefix must be added to all telemarketing numbers calling customers across Brazil, effective Thursday (Mar. 10). Unveiled last year by the country’s national telecom agency Anatel, the change aims to help users identify calls of this type and decide whether they will take them.
The code is required to come at the beginning of the number in any call advertising products or services. The changes apply to mobile providers only. In 90 days, they should also be implemented by landline operators.
The 0303 prefix will be exclusive and mandatory for outbound telemarketing activities, and the on-call and text advertising of products and services, regardless of whether or not they have been previously recorded. Telecom networks are required to make on-screen identification easy for customers.
In addition, operators must block outbound telemarketing calls if customers so request. The companies will also have to employ the necessary technological means to prevent use not in compliance with the rules established by Anatel.
