Brazil government to allocate BRL 1.7 billion to roads and railways
Brazil’s highway and railway sectors will have around BRL 1.7 billion available to restart and intensify works, prepare highways for the rainy season, guarantee the flow of harvest, and reduce the number of serious accidents. The resources are part of the priority actions of the 100 days of the government announced on Wednesday (Jan. 18) by the Ministry of Transportation.
This amount will enable the delivery of 861 kilometers of paved, revitalized, and signaled roads until April 2023. And 72 bridges and viaducts are also expected to be built or repaired in the same period, the ministry informed.
Transportation Minister Renan Filho said another 670 kilometers of road works that are currently suspended, due to lack of funds, will be resumed. By the end of 2022, there were more than 100 projects in highways with slow pace or suspended.
Suggestions
The Ministry of Transportation has received six thousand suggestions for priority actions through a public consultation. Most of them seek to expand the competitiveness of infrastructure and logistics of cargo and people transportation, improve the quality of infrastructure and transportation services, reduce bureaucracy, promote traffic safety, sustainability, governance, and access to information, the ministry informed.
