Extra payout under Bolsa Família brings allowance to record high
Starting Monday (Jun. 19), beneficiaries of Brazil’s income transfer program Bolsa Família should begin receiving June payments with an extra BRL 50 for pregnant women and families with children and adolescents 7–18 years old. The average monthly allowance per family should therefore reach the highest value in history—BRL 705.40, as per figures from the Ministry of Development and Social Work, Family, and Fight Against Hunger.
The North boasts the highest average in the country: BRL 740.37 for each family in the program. Next comes the Central-West, with BRL 721.16, followed by the South with BRL 711.28. In the Southeast, families benefited receive an average of BRL 700.26, compared to BRL 696.76 in the Northeast.
As it stands today, Bolsa Família assists 21.2 million families, the ministry reported. Its budget for June stood at BRL 14.97 billion—also a record amount for the monthly payments.
