Wednesday (Aug 17) proved an excellent day for Brazilian Tatiana Weston-Webb on the waves of Teahupo’o, on Tahiti, in the last stage of the world surfing circuit before the big decision for the 2022 title in the WSL Finals, to be held in California in September. The 26-year-old surfer from Rio Grande do Sul state was vice-world champion last year and is the only surfer in the 2022 season to win two stages, in Portugal and South Africa.

The Brazilian qualified for the quarterfinals of the Tahiti Pro stage by turning the score against Australian Isabella Nichols in the final six minutes of the repechage heat. Not only did Weston-Webb advance to the quarterfinals of the women’s competition, she also secured a spot in the WSL Finals, which will bring together the top five.

The men’s competition started right after the end of the women’s contest. Ranking leader Filipe Toledo is already secured in Trestles, but Olympic champion Ítalo Ferreira, currently fourth on the ranking, is yet to clinch the fifth and last spot in the men’s WSL Finals.
