Brazilian athlete Ana Moura wins Para Taekwondo Grand Prix

Ana Carolina Moura, from Minas Gerais state, won the gold medal in the up to 65 kilograms category at the Para Taekwondo Grand Prix of Paris, in France, on Monday (Sep. 5). Brazil conquered five other medals in the event - two silver and three bronze.

To reach the top of the podium, she had to win three fights. In her debut, she beat Turkish Secil Er, world champion last year in Istanbul, Turkey. In the semifinal, she defeated British Beth Munro. Finally, in the final, Ana Carolina, who was third in the Turkish capital, beat Danish Lisa Gjessing, four-time world champion and Paralympic gold medalist in Tokyo, Japan, in 2021.

Current Paralympic champion Nathan Torquato, from the state of São Paulo, won the silver medal in the category up to 63 kilos, defeated by Turkish Mahmut Bozteke. Silvana Fernandes, from Paraíba state, the vice-champion in Japan and world champion last year, was also defeated by an athlete from Turkey. In the final of the category up to 57 kilos, she did not resist Gamze Gurdal, whom she had beaten twice in 2021, in Tokyo and Istanbul, finishing in second place.

Two of Brazil's bronze medals in Paris came in the up to 52 kilos category with Cristhiane Neves, from Rio Grande do Norte - bronze at the World Championship, and Maria Eduarda Stumpf, from Rio Grande do Sul. The other one was won by Debora Menezes, from Paraná, third place in the Tokyo Paralympics, in the category above 65 kilos. Besides the medalists, seven other wrestlers have represented Brazil in the French capital.
