Conmebol defines groups in women’s Libertadores

Brazil will be represented by Corinthians, Palmeiras, and Ferroviária

The South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) on Tuesday (Sep 20) drew the groups for the Women’s Copa Libertadores, to be held between October 13 and 28 in Quito, Ecuador. Brazil will be represented in the competition by Corinthians, Palmeiras, and Ferroviária, all three from São Paulo.

Corinthians, continental champions today, seed Group A, which also includes Olimpia (Paraguay), Always Ready (Bolivia), and Deportivo Cali (Colombia).

Another Brazilian seed is Palmeiras, which are part of Group C, along with Universidad de Chile (Chile), Libertad-Limpeño (Paraguay), and a representative from Ecuador, to emerge from the clash between Club Ñañas and Independiente Dragonas.

The third Brazilian representative in the competition is Ferroviária, members of Group B along with Defensor Sporting (Uruguay), Boca Juniors (Argentina), and the Ecuadorian champion yet to be defined.

The women’s Copa Libertadores will be played by 16 clubs, split into four groups. The teams will play against all the opponents in their respective groups. The first and second places in each group will move to the quarterfinals, when the knockout stage begins.
