Brazil reach team final of artistic gymnastics worlds
Brazil have guaranteed their spot in the team final of the Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Liverpool. The achievement came after the Brazilian team finished the qualifying round in seventh position. The final will take place next Wednesday (Nov. 2).
Furthermore, the country will be represented by Caio Souza and Diogo Soares in the final for the individual all-around. Souza is also in the final of the vault, while Arthur Nory will seek a medal in the fixed bar, the apparatus he won at the 2019 World Championships in Stuttgart, Germany.
“All our goals were achieved. The first was to get back to the team final. We also brought two Brazilians to the all-around individual final. We almost got two in the bar final as well [Souza is the second backup, he ranked tenth]. And Caio also managed to go to the vault final,” said the men’s team coordinator, coach Marcos Goto.
Women’s final
Before the men’s decision, Brazil will compete in the women’s team event, to take place Tuesday (1). After finishing the qualifying round in a historic third position, Brazil will once again measure its strength against the best gymnasts in the world. “We have a team with some new girls and we made some mistakes in the qualifying round. I think we have room for improvement,” said coach Iryna Ilyashenko.
Should Brazil repeat the qualifying position—thus joining the three best teams in the world—they should guarantee the Olympic classification in advance.
