The Brazilian men’s team secured a spot in the round of 16 of the 2022 World Team Table Tennis Championships in Chengdu, China. The trio Hugo Calderano, Vitor Ishiy, and Eric Jouti on Tuesday (Oct 4) beat the Slovakians and advanced in the second place of group 6, behind Portugal.
Rio-born Hugo Calderano, world’s number five, faced a tough match against Yang Wang, but got the best of it, with three sets to two. Next it was Vitor Ishy’s turn to dispatch Jakub Zelinka by three sets to zero. The third and last to compete was Eric Jouti, who thrashed Adam Klajber also 3–0.
The women’s team (sisters Bruna and Giulia Takahashi, plus Laura Watanabe), however, bid farewell to the world championship after losing against France by three sets to two.
