Brazil’s Stefani, China’s Zhang win doubles title at WTA in Abu Dhabi
Luisa Stefani (Brazil) and Shuai Zhang (China) Sunday morning (Feb. 12) won the women's doubles title at the WTA 500 in Abu Dhabi. They defeated Japan's Shuko Aoyama and Taiwan's Chan Hao-ching, in the final, by 2 sets to 1 (3/6, 6/2 and 10-8).
This was the 19th straight victory for the Brazilian tennis player, undefeated since November 2022. It is her third trophy of the season and the fourth title in a row on the circuit (WTA 125 of Montevideo, with Ingrid Martins, in November, the WTA 500 of Adelaide, with Taylor Townsend, in January, and mixed doubles of the Australian Open, with Rafael Matos, in January).
Before the tournament in the United Arab Emirates, Luisa was in 36th place in the ranking. With the titles, she earned 470 points and should jump six positions. Her next tournament will be the WTA Doha, in Qatar. The competition starts today (13) and she will play against Kazakh Anna Danilina.
