Luisa Stefani wins WTA 500 Berlin women's doubles title
Brazilian tennis player Luisa Stefani, alongside Caroline Garcia from France, emerged victorious at the WTA Berlin women's doubles tournament on Sunday (Jun. 25). Competing on grass, they triumphed over the Czech Republic's Marketa Vondrousova and Katerina Siniakova. The match concluded with a score of 2 sets to 1 (4/6, 7/6 (10-8), and 10 to 4 [match tiebreak]) after a gripping one hour and forty minutes of play.
"Very happy with the title here in Berlin. Great week. Emotional game today, I saved some match points, a bit of ups and downs, but in the end, we finished firm and strong, which is the most important thing [...]. Thanks for everyone's support," said the Brazilian athlete after the game.
The victory put Luisa back into the top 15 of the world doubles ranking. Currently number 21 in the world, she should climb to 14th place.
After spending almost a year away recovering from a serious knee injury, Stefani won this year the titles of the Australian Open, in the mixed doubles, alongside compatriot Rafael Matos; the WTA 500 in Abu Dhabi (Arab Emirates), in the women's doubles, with Chinese Zhang Shuai; and the WTA 500 in Adelaide (Australia), in the women's doubles, alongside American Taylor Townsend.
