Thalita Simplício wins gold at Paralympic World Championships in Paris

The Brazilian track team has already secured nine medals

On Tuesday (Jul. 11), Thalita Simplício, a 25-year-old Brazilian paralympic medalist, clinched the gold medal at the World Paralympic Athletics Championships in Paris (France), triumphing in the 400-meter dash in the T11 class (reserved exclusively for athletes with visual impairments). This marked Brazil's second gold in the competition.

With a remarkable time of 56s60, Simplício crossed the finish line in first place. The silver medal went to Namibian athlete Lahja Ishitile (57s18), while Colombian Angie Pabon secured the bronze medal with a time of 58s22. This is Thalita's second world gold following her initial triumph at the 2019 edition in Dubai (United Arab Emirates).

Thalita Simplício remains in contention for two more podium finishes this week. She will return to the track on Wednesday (12) for the 100m race and compete in the 200m event on Saturday (15).

With her performance, Brazil has now amassed a total of nine medals at the World Championships, consisting of two gold, two silver, and five bronze medals.
