Brazil concludes Croatia Judo Grand Prix with 5 medals
Brazil wrapped up the Judo Grand Prix in Zagreb, Croatia, with 5 medals, including 3 golds and 2 bronzes, propelling them to the top of the overall medals tally for the competition, which concluded on Sunday (Aug. 20). The standout performance on the final day came from Brazilian middleweight Karol Gimenes (78 kilograms), who clinched the gold medal in her inaugural international event.
"I'm very happy with today's results. It was my first competition in the senior team. I managed to do my best. I was happy to be able to reproduce what I'd been training for. That made me very happy. Everything went well today," celebrated Karol.
In addition to Karol's gold, Brazil secured two bronze medals on the last day of the event, with Rafael Macedo (90 kilograms) and Leonardo Gonçalves (100 kilograms).
Brazil's two other gold medals at the Zagreb Grand Prix were achieved on the opening day of the competition, last Friday (18), with Jéssica Pereira (52 kilograms) and Willian Lima (66 kilograms) emerging victorious.
The Zagreb Grand Prix brought together 600 athletes from 80 nations and allocated up to 700 points in the world ranking towards the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The Brazilian delegation was comprised of 24 judokas, including 13 women and 11 men.
