Brazilian swimming team ends Pan American Games with 25 medals

The Brazilian swimming team ended its participation in the Olympic Games held in Santiago, Chile, with a total of 25 medals (7 gold, 7 silver, and 11 bronze).

The highlight of Team Brazil was Guilherme Costa. On Wednesday (Oct. 25), he secured the top spot on the podium for the fourth time in the competition, this time in the 1,500-meter freestyle event.

"I found the 1,500 meters easier compared to the 800 meters and 400 meters. Towards the end, I had to increase my pace because the American competitor anticipated my move, so I kept up with him. Although I hadn't competed in this distance for a while, it felt natural, and the performance exceeded my expectations," shared the Brazilian swimmer, who completed the race with a time of 15min09s29.

The Brazilian team secured another significant victory at the National Stadium Aquatic Center in the men's 4x100-meter medley relay, featuring Guilherme Caribé, Guilherme Basseto, João Gomes Júnior, and Vinícius Lanza. Additionally, Brazil clinched two bronze medals, thanks to the performances of Viviane Jungblut in the 1,500-meter freestyle and Leonardo Coelho in the 200-meter medley.

Boxing: securing a spot in Paris

Boxing is another sport in which Brazil is poised for success. On Wednesday, Brazilian athletes triumphed in 20 out of the 21 bouts they participated in. Notably, Jucielen Romeu's qualification for the semi-finals in the 57-kilogram category secured her a spot in the upcoming Olympic Games, scheduled for 2024 in Paris, France.

"I'm thrilled to have achieved half of my goal, securing a spot at the Olympics. My aim is to clinch the gold. I was very well prepared: I analyzed her [her opponent, Peruvian Daisy Hoang] matches, and I did my homework. Once inside the ring, I executed the game plan I had crafted—calmly and with a focus on technique. It all fell into place," remarked the Brazilian athlete. In the upcoming semi-finals, she will compete against Venezuela's Omailyn Segovia.
