Weeks after the end of the last edition of the Pan American Games, held in Santiago, Chile, Brazil continues to reap the rewards of its great campaign in the competition. On Monday (Nov. 27) the nominees for the Panam Sports Awards were announced and the Brazilian team stands out with nine contenders, including Olympic champion Rebeca Andrade, who is competing in two categories: Best Female Athlete and Changemaker.

Guilherme Costa, a prominent swimmer, represents Brazil in the Best Male Athlete category. The volleyball and handball teams also secure nominations for Best Men's Team and Best Women's Team, respectively. Individual athletes, such as triathlete Miguel Hidalgo and gymnast Maria Alexandre, vie for recognition in Legado Cali 2021—Male and Legado Cali 2021—Female, respectively. Additionally, swimming legend Thiago Pereira contends for the title of Panam Legend of Sport. The Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB) is in the running for the Olympic Committee with Best Performance accolade.

"Brazil's participation in the Pan American Games in Santiago made history, boasting a record number of gold and total medals. With the talent and dedication of the athletes, coupled with the efforts of the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB) and the confederations, Brazil is solidifying its position in second place on the medals table—a feat deemed unimaginable just a short time ago," said COB head Paulo Wanderley.

The Panam Sports Awards, bestowed by the organizers of the Pan American Games, honor athletes and national teams who have excelled in competitions. Voting is widely embraced and available for participation on the website panamsports.org/en/vote until December 5. The victors will be unveiled at a ceremony on December 9 in Miami, USA.
