Brazilian skater Rayssa Leal wins World League Tokyo stage
Rayssa Leal secured her victory with great emotion during the final lap of the Tokyo (Japan) stage of the Street League Skateboarding (SLS). The two-time world champion not only claimed the title but also secured early qualification for the Super Crown Final, which will determine the 2024 season's champion.
The only Brazilian competitor in the women’s final at Ariake Arena, she scored 7.9 on her last maneuver, bringing her total to 30.7 points. This performance secured her victory over host Coco Yoshizawa, the Olympic champion in Paris, who placed third with 29.4 points. Second place went to another local skater, Liz Akama, with 30.1 points.
In the qualifying round, Leal experienced foot discomfort during the first heat, which affected her performance. Initially in fourth place with 20.1 points, she delivered 8.1 on her penultimate attempt, raising her total to 28.2 points and securing first place heading into the final. On Saturday, the Brazilian reached her 18th consecutive SLS final—a record streak for both men and women.
This marks Leal's second podium victory of the season. The first was in April, at the San Diego (USA) event. She was also runner-up in Paris, in the opening round of the SLS. A bronze medalist at the Paris Olympics, the Brazilian is now aiming for an unprecedented third Super Crown title in the women’s category, backed by her fans. The 2024 title will be decided on December 14 and 15 at São Paulo's Ibirapuera Gymnasium. Her compatriot Giovanni Vianna will compete in the men’s final, hoping to secure a second title.
