Brazil releases norms for land access to country during World Cup
Tourists who choose to come to Brazil through international highways during the 2014 FIFA World Cup will have to comply with national traffic regulations, announced on Thursday (Apr. 24) the National Land Transport Agency (“ANTT”). Bans have been imposed on vehicles with mirrored windows and intoxicated drivers.
The rules were discussed during a multilateral meeting held in Foz do Iguaçu, in Paraná, on March 20, attended by delegations from Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay.
The international chartering of land transport will only be permitted for buses. In a note, the agency urges neighboring countries to inform Brazil on chartering norms in an attempt to make inspections easier on national borders.
Vans allowed to transit are only those which already trade in the Triple Frontier area, where borders are shared by Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay. As for private vans, drivers will have to produce documents demonstrating they own the vehicle or that they have legally rented it.
Foreign driver’s licenses will also be accepted as long as they have not expired and show the types of vehicles the tourist is allowed to drive.
