Storms have caused damages in 42 municipalities – over 400 thousand

The government of Santa Catarina has acknowldged the state of emergency in 41 municipalities due to the storms that swept the southern state. The towns of Guaramirim and Rio Negrinho have declared state of public calamity. According to the state’s Civil Defense, damages were reported in 41 towns and 406 thousand people were affected by the severe weather conditions. So far, over 52 thousand people have been forced out of their homes, and more than 7.5 thousand have lost them altogether.

The Civil Defense has reported 28 injured and 2 dead. The state government has announced that 48 thousand items for humanitarian assistence have been sent to the local governments: mattresses, lodging kits, mineral water, hygene and cleaning material, and food baskets. On Monday (16), the Ministry of National Integration allocated $180,000 for the assistance of victims.
