BW Offshore reported today (Feb. 13) it has brought ashore the bodies of its five employees killed in the explosion of Cidade de São Mateus oil vessel on Wednesday (Feb. 11). According to the company statement, four of the casualties were Brazilians and one was from India. Four people are still missing.

A further 65 employees who were on board during the accident were removed from the platform, 26 of whom were injured, according to BW Offshore, a contractor that has been operating the Petrobras platform since June 2009.

The explosion took place in the platform pump room at about 12:50pm on Wednesday (11). The FPSO vessel produces oil in the Camurupim and Camurupim Norte fields located in the Espírito Santo Basin, about 120 kilometers from the coast. There were 74 workers on the vessel at the time of the accident.
