Public prosecutors charge another 27 with fraud at Petrobras
The Federal Public Prosecution Office filed today (Mar 16) charges with the Federal Court of Curitiba against 27 suspects under investigation by Operation Car Wash. Among them is Workers' Party treasurer João Vaccari Neto, former services director at Petrobras Renato Duque, and former Petrobras manager Pedro Barusco. The measures were taken as part of the 10th phase of the police-launched operation, which started today.
Also charged were foreign currency dealer Alberto Youssef, former Petrobras supply director Paulo Roberto Costa, and executives from construction companies, who had been the subject of probes in previous phases of Operation Car Wash. All of them are charged with money laundering and corruption. The accusations will be tried by Federal Judge Sérgio Moro, in Curitiba. After the charges were accepted, the suspects became defendants.
In their reports, the public prosecutors mention the new instances of money embezzlement through contracts at the state-controlled oil firm. This time, probes targeted the Getúlio Vargas Refinery, in Araucária, Paraná; and the Paulínia Refinery, in São Paulo.
