Federal Police kicked off the 16th stage of its Operation Car Wash corruption probe this morning (July 28). About 180 officers are serving 30 warrants – 23 for search and seizure, two for detention of suspects, and five bench warrants. Police action is being carried out in Brasília, Rio de Janeiro, Niterói, São Paulo, and Barueri.

The investigations at this stage, dubbed “Radioactivity”, are targeted on contracts signed by companies implicated in Operation Car Wash with Eletronuclear, a nuclear subsidiary of state-controlled power holding Eletrobras.

Police are investigating collusion and bid rigging in the projects for Angra 3, a nuclear power plant in the state of Rio de Janeiro, as well as kickbacks paid to employees of the state-owned company.

The prisoners will be taken to a Federal Police building in Curitiba to await further orders from the local district court in charge of the case.
