Brazil Air Force to investigate Chapecoense plane crash
The Aeronautical Accidents Investigation and Prevention Center (CENIPA), managed by the Aeronautics Command, informed today (Dec. 1) that they will send two technicians to Medellín to take part in investigations of the plane crash from LaMia airline that was transporting the Chapecoense football team to the Colombian city.
Brazilian experts will board one of the three Brazilian Air Force Hercules aircraft that are ready at Manaus Air Force Base in the state of Amazonas, waiting to take off to Colombia. They will bring the victims' bodies to Brazil.
All the victims have already been identified and 15 bodies have been released. The accident killed 71 people and left six injured.
Colombian Civil Aeronautics investigators confirmed that the plane transporting the team to Medellín fell without "a drop of fuel" near the mountains of Cerro Gordo. They are now investigating the causes for the lack of fuel.
LaMia's director-general, Gustavo Vargas, stated yesterday (30) that the pilot believed there was enough fuel to reach the destination, because he had the option to go to Bogota to refuel, which was discarded.
