The Brazilian government said it was disappointed by US President Donald Trump's announcement withdrawing* the United States from w the country from the Paris Agreement. Through a joint statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Environment, Brazil expressed concern about the “negative impact” the decision could have, and reaffirmed its commitment to the “global effort” against climate change.

The statement went on to say the Brazilian government will continue to implement the agreement, maintaining the fight against climate change is “irreversible” and “cannot be postponed”. Invoking economic growth, the Foreign and Environment ministries said the agreement will create opportunities for sustainable development and new technological alternatives.

“The Brazilian Government will continue to work with all countries that are Parties to the Agreement and other stakeholders in the promotion of sustainable development, with low emissions of greenhouse gases and resilient to the adverse effects of climate change,” it read.
