Brazil football league to use video referee system
A hand-ball goal overlooked by the referee at a Corinthians and Vasco match Sunday (Sep. 17) made the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) speed up its decision to use a video referee system for the games in the A Series of the Brazilian Championship. The goal granted the victory to Corinthians with 1-0 and kept the team in the lead.
The announcement was made on CBF's website. Due to recurrent miscalculations that could be avoided through technology, the text reads, CBG President Marco Polo Del Nero gathered his team on Monday (18) and ordered the video referee to be implemented as soon as possible for the Series A games.
The confederation declared that Marcos Marinhos, CBF head for refereeing, is working on the details to carry out the decision, which may happen next weekend, in the 25th round of the series, if every game can be so equipped. The championship has 39 rounds altogether.
According to the CBF, over the course of this year, CBF representatives and Brazilian referees have taken part in theoretical practice sessions on the topic, some of which have been held at the South-American Football Confederation (Conmebol) headquarters in Asunción, Paraguay.
