The Ethics Committee of the International Football Federation (Fifa), found former Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) José Maria Marin guilty of pocketing bribes.

The decision bans him from any activity linked to football for the rest of his life. Marin has been in jail in the US since 2017.

Fifa also imposed a fine of $880 thousand. Marin, former São Paulo state governor (1982–1983) was notified Monday (Apr. 15), the date on which his sanctions are brought into effect.

Marin is said to have been involved in a number of bribery schemes from 2012 to 2015 involving contracts with media and marketing firms on the transmission rights of sports events organized by CBF; the South American Football Confederation (Conmebol); and the Confederation of North, Central American, and Caribbean Association Football (Concacaf).

Another former CBF president, Marco Polo Del Nero, had been imposed the same punishments in April 2018, for the same offenses.
