Brazil’s tourism is among the sectors which most quickly recovered from the losses brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, said Tourism Minister Gilson Machado during an interview on Brasil em Pauta Sunday (Dec. 19). Of the 378 thousand jobs created in August this year, he said, 180 thousand were generated by this sector. We expect 500 thousand jobs will be generated in the sector by February.

Brazil’s pavilion, he pointed out, is among the most visited at Expo Dubai 2020, a global fair combining 190 countries that showcase the very best they have. “Of these, our country ranks fourth in number of visitors,” Machado remarked, adding that, at its pavilion, Brazil is showing how to promote environmental preservation and conservation. The minister also noted that the country has 66 percent of its territory preserved. The Amazon alone is reported to have 84 percent of its area preserved, Machado argued.

These make our country a unique destination. “The world’s biggest biodiversity is here. That’s what makes Brazil extremely appealing economically—its preserved nature,” he mentioned.

Machado also talked about the resumption of cruises in the country and the Sustainable Tourism Seal. The full interview is available on Agência Brasil.
